SRPe Executive Director appointed to Scottish Science Advisory Council of Scottish Government
Dr Caroline Cantley, Executive Director of SRPe has been appointed as an expert to support the Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland.
The Scottish Science Advisory Council (SSAC) is Scotland’s highest level science advisory body, providing independent advice and recommendations on science strategy, policy and priorities to the Scottish Government.
Dr Cantley is one of five specialists across geoscience, engineering, agri-food and medicine, who will take up a three-year appointment with the SSAC from 1 January 2019.
Her career spans both industry and academia, and has focused on engineering, technology-based business and research.
In addition to Executive Directorship of SRPe - the Pan-Scotland engineering research partnership of ten universities based at Strathclyde – Dr Cantley has provided technical consultancy advice and services to energy clients around the globe.
She has also worked in strategic business and research leadership, and has led ground-breaking collaborative multi-national projects such as the University of Glasgow Institute for Gravitational Research programme developing the LIGO detector network in the US.
Dr Cantley said:

The other new members are Prof Wayne Powell, Principal and Chief Executive of Scotland’s Rural College; Prof Mark Inall, SAGES Director / Scottish Association for Marine Science; Professor John Underhill, the Chief Scientist at Heriot-Watt University and University of Glasgow Vice Principal, Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak.
SSAC Chair Professor Paul Boyle said:

Science Minister Richard Lochhead also welcomed the appointments and added:
